Why do we hold Elections?

The Students Union is a democratic organisation run by students for students. Here on the Medway Campus, students vote in the elections for their home institution. Because GK Unions is a partnership Students Union rather than a Students Union in its own right, elected officers are either Kent Union or Greenwich Students' Union.

Why are the Elections important?

By voting or running in elections, you are having your say in who Represents you in the running of your Student Union.

How do elections work on the Medway campus?

Elections are organised by your home Students Union - this means:

  • If you are a student at the University of Greenwich - Greenwich Students' Union will run your student elections. To find out more about these elections click here
  • If you are a student at the University of Kent - Kent Union will run your student elections.. To find out more about your elections click here

Are there any specific GK Unions elections?

GK Unions is a partnership between 2 Student Unions which runs activities, sports and other events on the Medway campus...

As part of running clubs and societies there are GK Unions elections for students to run:

  • Team Medway - GK Unions Sports Executive Committee
  • SOCCOCOM - GK Unions Societies Council
  • Executive Committee positions (such as President, Secretary, Treasurer etc) for each GK Unions Club or Society.

All the other student elections that happen on the Medway campus (such as the students elections to choose representatives for education course) are run via by 'the home Student Unions' i.e.(Kent Union or Greenwich Students' Union).
