What is GK Unions?

Greenwich and Kent Students' Unions Together (GK Unions) is a partnership between the University of Greenwich and the University of Kents' students' unions on the Medway campus.

What is a Student Union?

The Students' Union is a bit like a workers' union, except it's for students. It's led by Sabbatical Officers (students) who are elected every March.

Put simply - a Students' Union is run by students for students!

The Students' Union is an organisation that works to take care of students and their needs, this means that your voice is crucial, so find out how to participate or if you have any suggestions- get in touch via info@gkunions.co.uk!

I am a student at the University of Kent on the Medway campus - does this mean that GK Unions' is my 'home' Student Union?

As a Kent student, your 'home' Student Union is always Kent Union - which means that you are a member of Kent Union.

However on the Medway campus, a lot of Student Union services are run via GK Unions (a partnership between Kent Union and the Students' Union University of Greenwich.) so you are a member of GK Unions too!

I am a student at the University of Greenwich on the Medway campus - does this mean that GK Unions is my 'home' Student Union?

As a Greenwich student, your 'home; Student Union is always Students' Union University of Greenwich - which means that you are a member of Students' Union University of Greenwich.

However on the Medway campus a lot of Student Union services are run via GK Unions (a partnership between Kent Union and the Students' Union University of Greenwich) so you are a member of GK Unions too!

How can I be a member of GK Unions?

As a University of Greenwich or University of Kent student at Medway, you're automatically a member of GK Unions - this inlcudes part-time students. Welcome!

What and who are elected student officers? How do I contact them?

How do i join a club or society?

You can join a sports club or society by buying a membership in the "Activities" tab of our website. Just click on the society or club you would like to join and add the membership to your basket. Alternatively, you can join by visiting the GK Unions Reception the Pilkington building between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. 

We want students to be able to join our clubs and societies easily so if you have any questions or queries about this just email: activities@gkunions.co.uk and we will get back to you within 48 hours.

Where can I buy tickets for a GK Unions club or society event?

Advertising of events will always include how to sign up and get involved. Just check our events calendar on the homepage or come to the recpetion at the Pilkington building. 

What is an NUS Extra card?

An NUS card is a discount card for students, which can be used in a variety of high street and online stores. You can purchase yours on the NUS Extra website or by purchasing one from our GK Unions reception between 11am and 2pm Monday to Friday. The card costs £12 (or £14.99 for the International ISIC version) and can be used for one calendar year. For more information, and to read the full list of discounts, please see the NUS website.
