Multi Use Games Area on campus update – Update December 2019.
In 2018, we asked 1200+ students and staff on the Medway campus if the sports provision and sports facilities are #FitForPurpose, and from your feedback, we have:
- Created a Team Medway Social Programme – a programme of free, social sport that everyone on campus can attend, and in its first year had 1 in 10 students attending one or more sessions (www.gkunions.co.uk/sports)
- Minibuses to help students travel to sporting venue
One of the main concerns given in the feedback was the lack of sporting facilities on campus and the standard of existing ones. Since 2018, GK Unions have been working closely with the University of Kent, University of Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church to develop a Multi-Use Games Area proposal which will give the Medway students and staff an area to play social and competitive sport (basketball, netball, football, tennis e.g) on campus.
We are delighted to announce that the proposal was accepted. The University of Kent and University of Greenwich have agreed in principle to fund a Multi-Use Games Area next to the sports hall on campus, subject to planning permission. This is huge development for students at Medway which without student feedback, would not have been able to happen.
This is an incredibly exciting time at Medway and we will keep students and staff updated with new developments.
