Greenwich News Hub

Please continue to check you university emails for the latest news from the Univeristy and Greenwich Students Union.  Please follow their social media channels too.

Please see the updated information for students living in Liberty Quays.

The University of Greenwich have emailed Halls residents in Greenwich and Avery Hill regarding this – if you live in halls, please check your University email. A summary of their information is as follows: For those who have left halls, or are intending to leave as you can, we will not charge you fees for the weeks you are not resident from 1st April onwards.

We also recognise that as some services in some halls may be reduced in the current situation, those who do remain will receive a discount from April onwards if applicable to your residence. For the University to process this and to ensure we know who has remained in halls, you must inform the University ideally no later than Thursday 26th March about your movements.

You can do this by filling out the form on the Accommodation Portal. Please note: if you do not complete the form, you will not be eligible for any refund of hall fees so it is essential that you complete it now. If you have already completed the form, please update it if your circumstances have changed. It is especially important if you previously told the University that you were intending to leave halls and have now done so. If you have already moved out but have left items in your room and do not intend to return, you will not be charged for your room, but you must still tell us. You will be advised about departure arrangements after you complete the form.

Students who have left halls permanently will be contacted on or after 1st April, with the final balance of their account. Where a refund is due, arrangements will be made to refund the money within 4-6 weeks We ask that you please do not contact us about specific refunds and account balances as we cannot provide that information at the current time

Greenwich Accomodation update from Bill Franciscy Head of Accommodation Services - important to read and action by 26th March

I am writing with important updated information about your hall fees, as detailed in you your Accommodation Licence Agreement.

The UK Prime Minister last night announced a series of measures aimed at minimising the spread of Coronavirus. This includes minimising travel to only essential trips.

We will of course continue to to keep our halls of residnece open for students who remain on campus. For those who have left us, or are intending to leave as you can, we will not charge you fees for the weeks you are not resident from 1st April onwards. We also recognise that as some services in some halls may be reduced in the current situation, those who do remain will receive a discount from April onwards if applicable to your residence. Details will be communicated to you shortly if your hall is affected.

In order for us to process this and to ensure we know who has remained in halls, you must inform us ideally no later than Thursday 26th March whether you are: -

  • remaining in halls
  • have already moved out
  • have left halls but are intending to return if allowed to do so in future
  • intend to leave as soon as travel is permitted

You can do this by filling out the form on the Accommodation Portal. If you have already completed the form, please update it if your circumstances have changed. It is especially important if you previously told us that you were intending to leave halls and have now done so. If you have already moved out but have left items in your room and do not intend to return, you will not be charged for your room, but you must still tell us. You will be advised about departure arrangements after you complete the form.

Please note: if you do not complete the form, you will not be eligible for any refund of hall fees so it is essential that you complete it now.

  • Students who have left halls permanently will be contacted on or after 1st April, with the final balance of their account.

We realise that some students will not have wished to, or been able to, return home and we want to reassure you that we will be taking steps to look after your wellbeing. If you are remaining in halls and are the only person left in your flat, please let us know. We do not want you to feel isolated and want to explore all available options for keeping you in touch with others.

In the meantime, if you would like to contact the university with a specific query related to your studies, contact your Factuly Office. The Student Wellbeing Service and the Students' Union Advice Service are also available. However, if you would like to speak to someone about general issues, please contact the Student Centre via 020 8331 8272 (10:00 to 16:00) Monday to Friday) or email them at StudentCentre@gre.ac.uk and someone will contact you. You can also of course email Accommodation Services at your campus of residence.

This is a difficult time for everyone so please do reach out to us and let us know how we can help, especially if you are self-isolating due to feeling unwell.
