The Buddy Scheme is a relaxed peer-to-peer network coordinated by GK Unions that aims to help students settle in to life at Medway and support them throughout their university journey.
The Buddy Scheme is open to new students and students at any point in their time at university.
Current students can act as Buddies providing practical advice and signposting to other services, as well as come along to GK Unions activities and events with new students if wished.
This is an informal scheme so there are no set hours or meetings. Activities and support can be agreed mutually between the student and the Buddy.
Looking for a Buddy?
University can offer an overwhelming amount of opportunities. It can be difficult to know what is on offer and where to go for support.
Buddies can offer practical advice on living or studying in Medway. They have experienced it and they know what to expect!
A Buddy could meet for a coffee, or something stronger, to chat through everything from joining a gym, to choosing a dentist, to accessing GK services and activities.
You will be paired up based on interests and preferences as much as possible.

Have you taken full advantage of the opportunities at university? Are you part of a sports team, society or community action group? Would you be happy to support other students in getting involved themselves?
If you answered yes to any of those questions and you are excited to provide friendly support by sharing your experience and tips with other students, then you would be perfect as a Buddy.
Buddies and students will be paired up based on interests and preferences as much as possible.

Support/training provided: Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from the Buddy Scheme organiser.
