Give it a Go FAQs

What is Give it a Go?

GIAG is a fun, non-academic, social events programme giving you a range of activities from Thorpe Park trips, quiz nights, to art sessions to Winter Wonderland days out. Like the exciting and social events, you have seen across the Fresher’s Fortnight GIAG provides this for you all year right up to the end of term 3! Most of our activities are FREE and those you pay for are always discounted at student rates, include free travel & staff on shift to answer any questions! There is no membership fee and no commitment so you can just turn up to what you’d like. The programme always listens to your voice to help shape what you’d like to see coming up next. We take ALL feedback and develop the plan to make sure it is as flawless and shiny as you could possibly hope for. There really is always something for everyone!

Can I get involved in hosting a session?

Yes, you can! All ideas and feedback are welcome and you can come and chat with the team at The Student Hub or drop an email to giveitago@gkunions.co.uk! AND, if you are a sports team or society you can offer a taster session, open social, or offsite trip which can be advertised and promoted by GIAG. All collaborative events are supported and can help get you funding with rewards for each event ranging from £30 - £100!

Who’s on the give it a go team?

There is one GIAG coordinator and 7 student staff who you might see at any event. We have worked together since first term 2017 when the programme kicked off and are feeling very enthusiastic and proud to be delivering an even better range of events for you all this academic year! You might have seen some of us at Fresher’s fair or around the hub wearing our branded uniform (it’s not that official we just wear hoodies)

Can I attend a session?

Once you have enrolled in your course at your university you become a member of GK Unions (your Medway campus students' services) – this means bringing along your Kent or Greenwich ID to any event is immediate access to whatever we have to offer. Remember to buy your ticket if the event requires one and see you there! At the moment, this programme is only for Kent and Greenwich students studying at Medway campus.

Where do I buy tickets for events?

For any paid events there are easy ways for you to book your space. Sometimes you may find free events ask you to book a £0 ticket to confirm your space as we expect high popularity for this trip - it will always be advertised clearly if you need to do this. At reception – you can pay by cash or card at The Student Hub reception. They can also answer any queries you have and talk you through getting multiple tickets. Online – You can buy your tickets for events online just select the event you are interested in, click buy a ticket and sign into your account to pay – it’s as easy that! At an event – sometimes there will be chances for you to buy your space at entry for an event but please be aware it is always best to book in advance to avoid disappointment as spaces fill up quickly.

Can I get a refund?

You can arrange a refund for tickets only by coming into see the reception staff at least 48 hours before the start time of the event you can no longer attend. Refunds are not awarded if you miss the coaches, change plans last minute, or no longer have someone to go with. If you need to double check your eligibility for refunds then you can email info@gkuions.co.uk.

Where can I find the programme?

Our programme is advertised campus wide. You can always find the latest updates on events on this page, on the GK Facebook page, and updates added onto social media stories. You may even find some special deals on the socials so keep an eye out! Physical flyers are distributed on notice boards in all Kent and Greenwich buildings. Flyers are in stands to view while you grab lunch at the Deep End, and inside kitchens and laundrettes of Liberty Quays and Greenwich accommodation. You may also find use on plasma screens around The Student Hub and Drill Hall Library.
